Dear Friends,

I’ve been thinking about our kids a lot this week.

I mean “our kids.” As in the kids who are part of Redeemer. Technically they are your kids. But I think about them as ours.

Our kids have been busy recently. They also showed up big for our Resurrection Rally the day before Easter and learned about the events that led up to Jesus’ crucifixion and His resurrection.

And throughout April, the elementary kids have been getting together on Thursday nights to learn more about the God who created the heavens and the earth. This Sunday, make plans to arrive on time. The kids will start our worship service with a song they’ve been learning all month.

And a week from this Sunday, on Mother’s Day, we’ll be joining with moms and dads who will be dedicating their young ones to God.

AWANA – COMING this fall

And we’re making plans now for something very exciting this fall. We’ll be launching our very first Awana club for kids from age three through third grade. For those who aren’t familiar with Awana, it’s an international program designed to help disciple kids and to encourage them to memorize scripture.

GOSPEL ZONE – 1st & 3rd – AGE 6-11

And we have plans again for three Parking Lot Picnics during the summer, with special activities lined up for the kids. All of this effort, and all of the volunteers who make it happen, have one goal in view. We want to plant gospel seeds in the hearts of our kids. We want them to hear about the greatness of our God. About the deep love Jesus has for them. About how they can be part of God’s forever family. And how God can use them to show His love and share His word with others.

In other words, we want them to know Jesus, love Jesus, trust Jesus, obey Jesus and follow Jesus for the rest of their lives.

And there may be no more important assignment we have as a church.

Since we were children, we’ve heard the story about the little children who were being brought to Jesus. The Bible says people were bringing them so that Jesus would touch them. When the disciples saw it, they tried to keep the children away. But Jesus intervened. “Let the children come to me,” He says, “and do not forbid them. For such is the Kingdom of heaven.”

The Bible makes it clear that moms and dads have the primary responsibility for spiritual formation and spiritual direction with their children. As a community of faith, we have a responsibility to support and encourage and reinforce and supplement what’s happening at home.

I am so grateful for all of you who are investing your time as volunteers to be part of the team loving and guiding our kids. As our church continues to grow, that team of volunteers will need to grow as well. Maybe there is a part God would have you play?

“Children,” the Bible says, “are a blessing from the Lord.” May God give us wisdom and direction as we continue to love and serve our kids.

Speaking of our kids, we have some big summer plans for our older kids too – our Jr. High and Sr. High students. Check out the dates and add them to your family calendar.

Oh and by the way – the Buffalo River trip is not just for students – it’s open to everyone who’d like a day on the river!

Monday night was a great time of fellowship and fun for the ladies who were part of the Women’s Connection event at the Maumelle Pavilion.
And since the women had such a good time, we figured it’s time for the men to have a get together of their own.

men’s breakfast

Here’s your invitation to our May Men’s Breakfast!

Men. Young men. Boys. This is for you.

Get ready for a big breakfast get together (that will include Vance’s white gravy for your biscuits), coming up on Saturday, May 14 at 8:30 at church. In addition to the grits and biscuits and the rest of the food, we’ll a brief devotion and a testimony and plenty of time to get to know one another better.

We need to know if you’ll be joining us so we can make sure we have plenty of food. Next week, we’ll link to the sign-up form on the RCC website. But for now, make sure you save the date and plan to join us!

membership class – sat may 14

Our new members get together will be happening in a few weeks. There is some advanced reading and a few videos to watch before the meeting takes place. So now is a good time to connect with Pastor Matt and make plans to attend.

men’s ‘gun lap’ group

And here’s a reminder that the Friday morning GunLap group will be starting up again in June. The guys will be going through another book from Robert Wolgemuth called Lies Men Believe. Contact Jim McMurry with any questions about the group. All men are welcome! What do you and the Holy Spirit have in common? Before you answer too quickly, you might want to review what Jesus tells His disciples on the night before He is crucified. As it turns out, we are called to collaborate with the Spirit of God in the work of advancing the Kingdom of God on earth. We’ll examine that assignment as we turn again to John 15 this Sunday.

See you in church.

Soli Deo Gloria!
Pastor Bob
