AUGUST 16, 2023

Dear Friends,

Please keep your thoughts and prayers with those on the island of Maui as they manage the devastation from the wildfires. I am sure it is a very trying time for everyone dealing with such pain and loss, especially those those who have lost loved ones. This has become deadliest natural disaster in modern U.S. history. Pray for God’s comfort to visit those who have been afflicted with such pain. Pray for the church there in Maui to care for those individuals and share the love of Christ to those who are hurting. Pray for search and rescue officials. Pray that they would be given wisdom as they coordinate rescue efforts. We as Christians know that prayer matters. We do not pray in vain. We pray to a God who listens and will act in his good timing. We also know as Christians that the natural world has been “subjected to futility” and that it has been “groaning together in the pains of childbirth”. These wildfires are definitive proof of that. But one day, “creation will be set free from its bondage to corruption” and God will restore it to its former glory as he ushers in a new heavens and a new earth that will be completely devoid of natural disasters like wild fires. This is one of our many hopes for the future. We approach it by faith. How else are to we think of wildfires and the like? I think Albert Mohler offers some key insights. Finally, small groups at RCC are one of the main ways you can grow in community. Among other things, they primarily provide an outlet for support, encouragement, and accountability. If you are at all interested in visiting and/or joining a small group, refer to the details below.

As we seek to wrap up our “By Faith” series, join us this Sunday as Matt will give us a birds-eye view of Hebrews 11 and what sort of encouragement it offers us as believers.

And, as a personal aside, I want to let you all know how thankful I am by all of your warm regards and kind feedback with each and every one of my sermons. I love preaching God’s Word and your constant support has meant the world to me.

See you at church.

Blessings in Christ,

Cole Perkins
