The purpose of this letter is to commend to you Pat Howell as someone who is able to minister effectively as a faithful, skillful, and careful teacher of God’s word and offer experienced counsel. Throughout his life and ministry as a church planter, cross cultural missionary, pastor for international ministries, seminary professor and local church pastor, Pat has been used by God in a variety of ministry settings.
Over the past eight years as a member of our church, we have seen Pat not only serve faithfully in the life of our church, but also use his gifts to minister in our community.
Not only does Pat’s ministry experience and training enable him to serve effectively in a variety of ministry settings, he has a deeply personal understanding of God’s grace in his own life.
In 2013, we had to tell our congregation about unrepentant sin in Pat’s life that led to his divorce from his wife. While Pat remained unrepentant over the next few years, we eventually saw God do a deep work in his heart that led to a sober awareness of the reality of his sin and a season of humble confession and repentance.
We were able to see over time the fruit of that repentance as Pat and his wife were able to make progress in repairing some of the damage that Pat’s sin had caused to their relationship. In 2018, we were able to share with our church the joyful news of Pat’s repentance and welcome him back into the fellowship of our local church.
Since that time, we have continued to see God’s work in Pat’s heart and life.
As a result of his fall and eventual restoration, Pat is able to help men and women not only better understand God’s word but also see how they can experience God’s grace as they apply the scriptures in their own lives.
